Lake Simcoe
We were honoured to design this 5000 sqft home in Georgina, Ontario.
Their design brief was simple: The ability to entertain 10 - 12 friends as the husband was no longer as able to leave the home. A caretaker suite was a must, a wonderful den for the husband, and the entire house must meet accessibility standards.
The wife, a prolific Canadian Naturalist, wanted to bring the environment into the home and ensure that whimsy was a key factor in the design.
During our 3 year collaboration, we brought to life the concept of “environment” into their space through fabrics, flooring, and fixtures.
To achieve this, a unique plaster art wall was created in the Great Room, complimented by two gorgeous Kath Farris paintings depicting the area foliage. A custom commissioned “Raven” rug by Inuit Artist Ningiukulu Teevee was installed in the home office. Glass artist, Francis Muscat, created a stained glass piece referencing the monster lore of Lake Simcoe, installed in a skylight over the outdoor dining area.
To achieve the organic atmosphere, which the clients adore, we sourced expertly curated wallpaper, walnut flooring throughout, tile inspired by textile art, the use of native stone, and diffused lighting that integrated raw imagery (like birds in a bird bath) were used across the design.
Each room draws connection to its neighbour, with cultivated environment and playful whimsy around every corner. Collaboration with the architect, contractor, artisans, and Elizabeth J. White Design & Consulting came together to create a truly unique home that immerses the clients and guests in the relaxing and healing habitat that highlights the personalities of the residents.
